In the majority of cases, resizing a ring doesn’t leave any strikingly visible marks on it.

When your ring is soldered during the resizing process, we use the same metal, if not a highly similar one, as is present in the ring already - so the soldered section looks as seamless and natural as possible.

Like most things, there is an exception to this. If the alloy in your ring is sufficiently unique in that a matching material cannot be sourced, we may then have to incorporate another similar, but different alloy in the resizing process. In this case, since a different metal is used in the resizing process, there may be a faint band in your ring at the point where it was cut to be resized.

We recommend resizing a ring to no more than two sizes up or down. This is so that any alterations made won't jeopardize the integrity of the ring's structure.

That being said, it’s also important to consider the design of the ring itself, since that can put a limit on any resizing possibilities, too.

For instance, if a ring has gemstones around its circumference (Pave), it would be difficult to resize since the gemstones would have to be safely removed and reset. Or if a ring has a tension-set stone- that is, a gemstone that is held in by the pressure of the band rather than by a classic setting and prongs, resizing the ring could compromise the tension on the gemstone - leading to a poor hold on the stone itself.

The ring resizing procedure begins with a careful incision through the bottom of the band. What happens next depends on whether the ring is being sized up or down.

Sizing Up
After the incision is made, the ring is placed onto a circumference measuring tool. It is usually a cone-shaped tool with markings along the side indicating the size of your ring. The ring is lowered carefully to its desired size as the incision on the band widens. With a new gap at the back of the ring perfectly measured, we cut a small piece of the same metal as the ring and insert it into the gap. With special care taken to protect the gemstones, the metal is then soldered together. With the metal joined together, the ring is then filed, cleaned and polished to its original vibrant shine. You will no longer have to worry about discomfort or pain from your ring. It is ready for that perfect fit feeling. Alternatively, in some cases it is possible to size up by slightly thinning the ring and shaping it for a more comfortable fit. This can be a suitable option if the band is sufficiently thick, and if the metal is a type that is more easily shaped. Sizing Down
After the initial incision of the ring is made, another measured incision is created beside the first. Then, light pressure is applied to narrow the gap and make the ring smaller. The ring is then soldered together with a small amount of the same metal as the ring. With the ring soldered together, it is then filed and polished for a seamless result. You will now be able to wear your ring comfortably, without worrying about it falling off of your finger.
